July 30th was a day called "Doyou no Ushinohi" We have a custom to eat "Unagi (eels)" on this day. Recently the price of "Unagi" has been rising. It's sad I can't eat Unagi many times a year. It's said Unagi has a lot of good nutrition so it's good to eat it to survive the hottest season of Japan.

There's an observatory on the 24th floor of the Kobe City Hall. We can see a nice panoramic view of Kobe City for free. The night view is also very beautiful. It opens until 22:00. ( http://plus.feel-kobe.jp/facilities/detail.php?code=0000000088 )
This shrine has a long history and is one of the most popular shrines in Kobe. During the New Year's holiday, it is crowded with lots of people. When I was a university student, I did a part- time job here. It was an interesting experience.
"Gion Matsuri" is one of the most famous festivals in Japan. It is held in July every year. The highlight of this festival is the parades of beautiful floats held on July 17th and 24th. People started assembling these floats called "Yamaboko山鉾" today. They assemble them only using ropes without nails in a traditional way. The parade is like this.
Tanabata or the Star Festival is held on July 7th. This festival came from an old legend. It is said that two lovers, Kengyu, the cowherd(Altair) and Shokujo, the weaver(Vega) can meet only on this day. People write their wishes on slips of colored paper and attach to branches of bamboo.
